MHS PTSO General Meeting 9-11-07
President Cele Eifert opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. Following introductions, Treasurer Anne Houston gave the treasurer’s report.
Treasurer’s Report
Through August 2007 net income balance was $23,418.18.
Principal’s Remarks
Regarding SAT scores, McIntosh (MHS) ranked #15 in the state with a total score of 1625 out of a possible 2400, making it the top Fayette County school for SAT scores. MHS students scored an average of 24.5 out of 36 on the ACT. MHS ranked in the top 5% of schools nation-wide in a Newsweek poll. Last year’s MHS yearbook won a gold award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. MHS’s school improvement plan is in the process of being written.
Committee Reports
Hospitality
Sheila Hardeman is getting the volunteer lists from Susie Burk and is also preparing for the upcoming PIE breakfast.
Spirit Wear
The committee is selling spirit wear at the football games. The order form needs to be put on the website. Also, if anyone has an Indian Chief shirt that needs to be replaced due to color bleeding, contact Cindy Robertson.
School Store
As of August 14, the store had brought in $1229 per Kim Wingo.
Appropriations
Reggie has received 13 requests so far. The deadline for requests is 9-17-07.
Website
A coordinator is needed.
Guidance
Senior meetings are in progress. Senior Night at Sandy Creek High School is scheduled for September 24th at 6:30 pm.
Front Office
Everything is working well.
Landscaping
Deb and Bob Busselle are the new chairs. They are looking for projects and also want to include the student club members for volunteer activities.
Bulletin Board
Jane Higgins and Kathy Valencia want to start a scrapbook for each year’s events.
Student Club
The next meeting of the student portion of PTSO is 9-20-07. They need to plan how they want to spend the $3000 they will raise this year.
FCBOE Redistricting-Elementary Schools
The representatives for all the schools are looking at Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU), not feeder patterns, in looking at school redistricting. Basically this committee is starting from scratch. The total capacity for all schools was figured out exactly. The committee will prepare three options for the November School Board meeting for Fall of 2008 and 2009.
Old Business
We are waiting for installation of the atomic clocks.
The Directory will be delivered to the teacher’s boxes for 1st period classes.
The MHS PIE Reception will be held on September 25. We plan to purchase a full page yearbook ad to recognize PIE members.
The school store needs a coordinator for the adult volunteers.
The website needs a coordinator.
New Business
Regarding Hospitality events, the Principal said no help is needed for faculty meeting. Small refreshments would be appreciated for department chair meetings and for Joint Chiefs meetings. Currently scheduled events for Hospitality are the Teacher Breakfast, PIE, Awards Nights, & Teacher Holiday Breakfast.
Next month there will be no daytime general meeting. Instead, there will be an evening meeting on Monday, October 15th at 7 pm, hopefully to feature Cpl. Crider.
Parent Bob Busselle brought up the urgent safety need for a crosswalk in front of the school across Walt Banks. PTSO president and MHS principal will confer.
