MHS PTSO General Meeting 2-12-08
President Cele Eifert welcomed everyone present.
 
Principal’s Remarks
Principal Tracie Fleming announced that a Community Awareness Seminar will be held at MHS on Tuesday, February 26, from 7-8:30 pm.  This forum consisting of school officials, police, and city and county leaders will discuss gang information, internet safety, police interactions, and other issues.  This seminar will be held at each high school that week and is for parents and students.
 
Treasurer’s Report
Our total in the bank as of today is $11,342.  The main income from January was $2207 from the school store.  Total expenses for January were $3585.
 
Committee Reports
 
School Store
Because of the county’s contract with Coke, the school store must purchase its drinks through Coca-Cola.  As a result of this new “supplier” for the school store, prices for water and juice will have to increase.
 
Fashionata
There is no hard data on the expenses and income yet, as the event took place only 2 days ago.  The treasurers will work on the numbers with the committee and the school bookkeeper.
 
Student Club
Cele Eifert will lead the next student club meeting.  The club has $3000 to spend on the school.
 
Hospitality
The committee is providing snacks for joint chiefs and department chair meetings.  Hospitality will provide desserts for Honors nights on May 5 and 6.  Graduation is May 23, and PTSO will provide the teachers with pizza.
 
Spirit Wear
Spirit Wear was sold at one basketball game.
 
Appropriations
14 requests have been filled.  There is one more to fund.  15 were denied, placed on hold, or acquired through PIE.  $1486 remains, and any unused funds go back into the general fund.

Landscaping
The baseball area is being completed.  The concession stand will need landscaping.

The slate for next year is in progress.
 
New Business
 
Freshman Fair
The Freshman Fair night at MHS is Thursday, March 13, from 7-9 pm.  A 2-day camp for incoming freshmen is being planned for late summer before school starts.  This will replace orientation day.
 
Student Leadership Class
On March 6 Cele Eifert is planning to give a presentation,”Lead to Succeed”, to the teacher club advisors.  The goal is to then do a pilot class for student leaders to help them learn to run successful meetings in their various clubs.  This program could be started up again in September.
 
MHS Teacher of the Year
A motion was made and seconded to spend up to $50 each for to a teacher and administrator for winning major awards this year. Earlier this year, Diane Freeman was selected as MHS Teacher of the Year, and Lisa Fine was named GA Assistant Principal of the Year.  Pat Cook will have the flowers delivered following winter break.
 
Teacher Appreciation Week Gift
Teacher Appreciation Week is scheduled for May.  The PTSO is responsible for one day.  There was much discussion on possible gift ideas.  Melinda Randolph will look into car wash gift cards.
 
PIE Business Plaques
PIE businesses need to have their pictures taken with PTSO and/or Tracie Fleming.
 
The next PTSO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11 at 10 am in room 202.
