President Cele Eifert opened the meeting and welcomed everyone present.
Principal’s Remarks
Principal Tracie Fleming reported that the School Resource Officer has received word that the crosswalk in front of the school had been approved. It should be painted before the end of the current school year. Work on preparing the first Freshmen Camp is proceeding. It is scheduled for July 29 & 30. There have been a few minor disciplinary problems following the students’ return from Spring Break, but nothing major. The principal is in the process of hiring new teachers for next year and is currently looking for a construction teacher. Mrs. Fleming thanked all the volunteers for all their help.
Treasurer’s Report
As of 4-15-08 there is $16,260.72 in the bank. Income for the past month included $2316 from the school store. Expenses included $1155.80 for Fashionata, $953.59 for the school store and $99.64 for teacher gifts. The student club decided to spend their money on picnic tables for the courtyard for an approximate cost of $3700.

Nominating Committee

Fashionata
Emily Ray with The Foto Lounge reported that half of all print sales proceeds from Fashionata in the future would be donated. She presented the PTSO with a donation of $100. This year Fashionata made $1410.95. Emily also explained that for Prom her company will be taking photos at the Biltmore for $40 per couple. Flyers will be distributed at MHS.
School Store
Student volunteers have been spotty. Juice is starting to sell. A new person will be needed next year to do the books. The school store profit from August through March is $5159.40.
Student Club
The club is taking names for potential officers for next year.
Hospitality
The committee will help with honors nights in May. New chairs are need for next year.
Spirit Wear
Nothing to report.
Appropriations
Nothing to report.
Website
The web hosting fees and mail service fees (around $600) have been paid for the year. This will be a yearly fee. Picture space is available in Google space on site. Cindy Robertson will check to make sure the spirit wear order form is accessible on the site.

Front Office
Jody wants the PTSO to stay in charge of scheduling the volunteers.
Landscaping
In the baseball field area, a new press box and concessions stand are being built. This area may need landscaping in the future. This had been an appropriations request for the past two years which was tabled till work was completed.
Bulletin Board
The decorations that Kathy Valencia needs for the board are in the mail room.
Old Business
Student Leadership Class
The “Lead to Succeed” class will be held Tuesday, April 22. Basic information on how to run meetings will be presented. We hope to get feedback from the student club officers. MHS will pay for copies of an abbreviated version of Robert’s Rules of Order.
Teacher Appreciation Week Gifts
Jane Higgins will purchase 126 Starbuck’s $10 gift cards for the teachers. Karen Powell can print off the labels with the teachers’ names.
Rising Freshman MHS Spirit Packs
Cindy Robertson and Cele Eifert will get the forms to the middle schools for ordering the packs in the next week or two. The spirit packs will contain the pack, t-shirt and magnet and will be delivered the last week of school. We have about 440 incoming freshmen next year.
Volunteer Appreciation Brunch
The brunch is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 10 am at Cele’s house. Pat Cook will send out invitations to the committee chairs.
Freshman Camp
The camp is scheduled for July 29-30. The PTSO can help out in any way for those students who are unable to make the camp, perhaps including them with the new student dinner, or just showing them around the school.

New Business
Bylaws Change Proposal
Pat Cook motioned and Teresa Love seconded to change the bylaws as follows:
1. Under “BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THEIR ELECTIONS,” the phrase “…a President or two Co-Presidents, one or more Vice Presidents, a Secretary, and a Treasurer” to “a President or two Co-Presidents, one or more Vice Presidents, one or two Co-Secretaries, and one or two Co-Treasurers.”;
2. the phrase “Each Board member may not serve more than two years in the same position.” to “Each Board member may not serve more than two years in the same position unless specifically approved by the board and ratified by a quorum at a general membership meeting.”
Following discussion the motion passed.
Nominating Committee
The proposed MHS PTSO slate for the 2008-2009 school year is as follows: Cele Eifert – President, Laurel Cantlon – Vice President, Anne Houston – Co-Treasurer, Laura Potash – Co-Treasurer, Tamara Kasbo – Secretary. This slate will be voted on at the May PTSO meeting.

Any Other New Business
A motion was made by Laura Potash and seconded by Anne Houston to donate $100 to the Booth Science Olympiad Team. Following discussion the motion passed.
A suggestion was made to send cards to this year’s retiring teachers. Pat Cook will get the names from Mrs. Fleming and send cards in May.
